The movie “A Film Unfinished,” raises many questions about intentions. Why would the Germans care so much about making life in the Warsaw ghetto look good to the outside world when in fact the 1.5 million Jewish people there were living in terrible conditions. The raw footage that was never meant to be seen by the outside world would shock and disgust all that viewed it. Another question raised by this is why did the Germans not get rid of the film that showed truly how miserable life in the ghetto was for the Jews. Did they think that it would never be seen by outside eyes? This movie was intended to show that life in the ghetto was not that bad for the Jews and that even though they were being held against their will they could lead lives of luxury within the ghetto. In fact the film did show scenes of a good life in the ghetto. But for every scene showing an actor living it up there was real video of people starving, dying on the streets, and leading lives in unsanitary conditions. The Jewish people in the ghetto become so accustomed to death in the ghetto that the raw footage in the film shows them walking past dead on the street without paying any notice, they were just used to it. Did the camera men shooting this film really not realize what the Germans were doing here and that this was truly a sign of things to come? The Jewish people starving and overall filth of the ghetto had to make a impact on the camera men. When people are being carted out of the ghetto dead and being buried by their fellows Jews in the masses the camera men had to realize that something was wrong. That this was just a step in the Germans master plan to eliminate the Jewish people. Many questions can be asked by this film and most of them cannot be answered now. If they camera men knew what was happening why didn’t they get it out to the world? Was it that they felt they would endanger themselves or that the world would not believe? The film shows all the truth anyone would need and more. Watching “A Film Unfinished,” makes one feel and question many things, and at this point many questions must remain unanswered.

"A Film Unfinished"

“A Film Unfinished” was intended for anyone who needs a broader perspective while remembering the tragic events which lead one million and five hundred every day people to their demise. I thought it was a great attempt to make a portrait of what life was really like for the Jewish community. Having select knowledge of events during the genocide of the Jews, I have rarely gotten the opportunity to view footage of that time which I found shamefully interesting. This created even more emotions as the narrator explained things in a gentile poetic way. As the film reminisced of facts, ice was broken between the paradoxes created by the Nazi regime. It is a harsh reminder of how easy it is for hate to breed if empathy is forgotten. It exposed the circumstances in which Jews struggled to survive in as they were slowly stripped of their rights and continuously given false hopes.
Because Hitler and his men proved capable of doing powerful things, a lot of other people followed what was admirable at that time and a lot of characters were tested. Although all of these people were eager to participate in these inhumane activities a lot of them were not as eager to fess up to them. Astonishingly, out of all of the film crew only one was exposed. There were a few scenes from the film which really stuck with me. The scene of the Jewish woman who did not help another starving Jew made it apparent that it was every Jew for themselves. The ghettos which were crowded with hunger and no chance of survival resembled a mixed waste land of sickly faces. I felt sad when the survivor’s confessed that out of all of those people they continued to hope that they might see someone they knew. No matter how old or how wealthy, at some point they were all alone. That was a sad movie.

After watching 'A Film Unfinished' I just felt horrible for the Jewish people. I cannot even imagine what it would be like to be in their shoes. It made me wonder how many of the people were really oblivious to the plans that the German soldiers had for them. Would they have revolted against the Germans if they knew that their lives would shortly be coming to an end or would the just surrender? I also wondered how the film crew felt while shooting the lives of these people in need. I wonder if they felt any guilt especially knowing the real struggles that the Jewish people were going through. Why would they have agreed to take part in such a terrible act in the first place? It's just really hard for me to think that the German soldiers even had hearts because if they did, how was it that they would be able to kill thousands of innocent people? How were they able to look into the face of a starving child and without hesitation end their life, giving them no hope for a brighter future? I know that I could never do something like that. Something that was very disturbing was the fact that tons of dead bodies lined the sidewalks of the Ghetto. The people just walked past them like they were nothing. I understand that there really was nothing that they could do with the bodies, but I would think that they would at least show a little compassion. Those people were, after all, someones family member. Although I think that the film would have eventually been used as blackmail against the Jews, I still wonder what the main reason for filming them was. After they blackmailed them what were they ultimately going to do with the film? The whole filming thing was kind of weird, at least I thought so. Although many of the Jews' lives were heartbreaking and sad, at least now they are able to be comforted by the fact that we now know the truth about what really happened to them and that they continue to be honored until this day.

This film was a remarkable look at how the German treated the Jews in the Warsaw Getto. It was made to capture and show people in the 1940’s how good the Jews had it under Hitler’s stiff hand. The film was supposed to be edited and all the terrible pictures were supposed to be cut, but the film never got finished. Instead the film was published without any corrections and it portrayed stories and pictures of how horrible the Jews were treated. To me, I don’t understand why the Jews were treated so badly. Maybe it’s because I don’t know enough about history so see Hitler’s view on Jews. But I think that blaming people for a war, just because they are Jews and treating them so terribly is inhumane even for the 1940’s. I will be totally honest. I am not a history person and maybe I was taught a little about the holocaust in high school but I don’t remember much. When I was told we are going to be writing a paper on the holocaust I was a little scared because I didn’t know what it was. But after watching this movie, I learned that the Germans controlled every aspect of the Jew’s lives. This film had disturbing photos and interviews of people who had lived in the Getto. The film says that nearly half a million Jews were “staged” in a just a few mile radius. I have only seen the movie where this can occur and it was so hard to watch. Children and families were starved and beaten if they tried to escape. I am wondering about the camera men? How could so many Germans take part in this evil act against the Jew’s? How can the people filming the Warsaw Getto be so okay with what they were doing? I know I could not do it. And today (I would like to think) something like that will never happen again. I feel sorry for the Jews.

Dumpster Diving Questions

1. If you find something good make sure to set it aside for the next diver so they can have it.
Steer clear from most dairy, but definitely smell it first before trying it. Be careful not to dive too deep because that’s where you find the oldest garbage that is probably rotted by now.
2. preferred pizz, canned food, candy, fruit and vegetables.
He tried to avoid all egg based foods, poultry and pork.

3. A diver is someone who carefully picks through dumpsters and can find use out of almost anything. A scrounger is someone who quickly scavenged through dumpsters, only stopping when something finding things like can and anything shiny that would produce quick cash.

5. He knows how wasteful and ignorant the average American is. He literally lived off what people threw away in their garbage. In his mind, he’s above all of us.

6. His tone is pretty cocky and sarcastic. He acts like he’s above the rest of us. His writing style was persuasive, aggressive and adamant.

discussion on dumpster diving with Eli Martin, Jeremy Cooper, Justin Garrett, Dane Wommack, and Whitney Layne

1) He uses his sences and comon sinces to test the food that he finds to make sure it is safe to eat.
He stays to what he knows and places he is fimilar with and sticks to a rutine and times where he know when he can find the best foods, exsample keeping an eye on the college schedule.
He always asked the question why was the food discarted.

2) The foods that is likes and was happy to find was pizza, caned goods, dry foods and yogart and the foods he did not want or what he could not use was green leafy vegies and home caned goods, left overs from residental homes and things he could not clean.

3) The differents in can and scroungers was that the can scroungers was taht they dont look for anything but cans they were dirty in his eyes cause they make a mess of the trash and are not considerit of others pushing all the good stuff to the bottom and most of them are winos just looking for a way to get their fix, and the good dumster divers will leave things clean and are considerate of others leaving things out in plan site, they are very pratical people.

5)He was sorry for others cause they ware not taking advantage of that is around them and they are missing out on life.

Scrounger- They are just there to make quick cash. They tend to be disrespectful and ruin many of the valuable items due to their impulsive behavior.

1.) He talked alot about the location of the dumpster, weather or not its in a residential area or near a college campus. He also talked about not keeping everything you find. Make sense of the things you need and get rid of the rest. Eighner says in the story that the best way to get the good stuff at the bottom of the Dumpster is to lower yourself in.
2.) The foods that Eighner ate the most of were: yogurt, pizza, canned foods. Also foods that were dry: crackers, chips, candy or individually wrapped. The food that he typically stayed away from were: Veggie juices, poultry, eggs, fish, ethnic foods or things he didnt know what it was.
3.)Dumpster Diver's look for the essentials, food, drink, blankets, household goods. A can scrounger shuffle through the cans and make big messes therefore ruining the things that can be salvaged for the divers to use.
4.) Cats, bees, fire ants, and maggots.
5.)People that are more fortunate then he is dont realize how good they have it. By him saying "I feel sorry for them", he's saying that they need to open their eyes and see how much they throw away on a daily basis.
6.)The tone is very informative, who knew that someone could write that much on dumpster diving? The tone was light, easy to understand and picture how it feels and things essential things you can salvage from others trash.
